The Boston University women's ice hockey team will head to the Washington, D.C., area this weekend for a pair of games against WCHA foes as part of the D1in DC event in Arlington, Virginia. BU will take on Minnesota State on Friday before facing No. 1 Wisconsin on Saturday. Both games will take place at the Kettler Capitals Iceplex, the practice facility of the Washington Capitals.
SCOUTING THE MAVERICKS
- Minnesota State is on a six-game losing streak, but the Mavericks did play Minnesota Duluth to a pair of one-goal road losses last weekend.
- They suffered a 2-1 setback on Nov. 17 before losing, 3-2, the next day.
- Junior Jordan McLaughlin leads MSU in both goals (5) and points (10) while freshman Brittyn Fleming has a team-high seven assists this season.
- Junior goaltender Kathryn Bidulka has started nine of the 10 games in which she has played, posting a 2.92 goals-against average and a .903 save percentage.
SCOUTING THE BADGERS
- The 2017 national runners-up are a perfect 16-0-0 this season and come to Washington well-rested, having not played last weekend.
- They last skated on Nov. 10 and 11 at Cornell, earning a 3-1 win and a 2-1 win over the Big Red.
- Sophomore Abby Roque leads Wisconsin in both points (19) and assists while senior Claudia Kepler is the team's top goal scorer with nine markers this season.
- Three players have at least 10 assists but nobody has 10 goals, though 15 different players have lit the lamp.
- Sophomore goaltender Kristen Campbell has started all 16 games and owns a 0.94 goals-against average and a .951 save percentage.
HISTORY WITH THE BADGERS
- BU is winless in five matchups with the Badgers, three of which have come in the regular season.
- This is the second neutral-site game between BU and Wisconsin, as the Badgers bested the Terriers, 5-0, on Nov. 16, 2013.
- The Terriers and Badgers first met in the 2011 national title game, with Wisconsin earning a 4-1 win.
LAST TIME AGAINST WISCONSIN
- Victoria Bach notched the Terriers' lone goal in a 5-1 road loss in an NCAA quarterfinal contest on March 14, 2015.
- Rebecca Leslie assisted on the goal.
BU HAS BEATEN NO. 1 BEFORE
- The Terriers last defeated a top-ranked team on March 8, 2015, when they bested No. 1 Boston College, 4-1, in the Hockey East title game.
- BU last played a top-ranked squad on March 6, 2016, when it lost 5-0 to BC.
- BU does have recent success against top-five teams, however, as it beat No. 2 Minnesota and No. 4 BC last season.
TWO TERRIERS EARN WEEKLY HONORS
• Senior Victoria Bach and freshman Corinne Schroeder each took home a weekly award from Hockey East.
• Bach was named Player of the Week while Schroeder was selected as Defensive Player of the week.
• Bach led the NCAA with five goals and finished the weekend with six points.
• Four of those
• Schroeder made 60 saves, including 33 over both third periods, and allowed just two goals on the weekend.
• This was the first time a BU player had been recognized by the league this year.
LESLIE HAD A GREAT WEEKEND, TOO
- Senior captain Rebecca Leslie led the NCAA with seven points this past weekend thanks to three goals and a nation-best four assists.
- She scored two of those goals on Saturday in a 3-1 win, including the game-winner in the second stanza.
- Leslie matched her career high with three assists on Friday and added a goal for a four-point night.
SCHROEDER KEEPS SHINING
- Freshman goaltender Corinne Schroeder has allowed just five even-strength goals this season and has yet to give up more than two goals in a single game.
- She leads Hockey East in both save percentage (.946) and goals-against average (1.54).
- Schroeder leads all NCAA freshmen in both of those categories.
- She is fourth overall in save percentage and sixth overall in GAA.
- Schroeder is one of just two qualifying Division I goaltenders (Kristen Campbell, Wisconsin) yet to allow more than two goals in a single game.
KILLING 'EM SOFTLY
- BU killed all 13 power-play chances it faced this past weekend, more than any other school in the NCAA.
- The Terriers were a perfect 7-of-7 on Saturday, including a 5-of-5 mark in the third period.
- BU also scored its second shorthanded goal of the year on Friday.
- On their brief three-game unbeaten streak, the Terriers have killed 14 of 15 power play chances they have faced.
