Terriers Claim Wire-to-Wire Win at Loyola, 67-55

BALTIMORE, Md. -  Led once again by senior Sarah Hope and junior Sophie Beaudry, who had 19 and 17 points respectively, BU cruised to a 67-55 victory at Loyola on Saturday. 
 
The Terriers, who never trailed in the game, led by as many as 27 points in the second half and coasted to its fourth win in their last five games.

TURNING POINT

  • Leading 16-11 after one quarter, BU's defense held Loyola to just two points and zero field goals in the second quarter. BU outscored the Greyhounds 20-2 in the second with 17 of those points coming from the BU bench.
  • Freshman Vanessa Edgehill and Meghan Green combined for 11 points in the second quarter as BU pulled away to a big 36-13 lead at the half.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • BU came out fast and built an early 8-2 lead when Sophie Beaudry hit a left-handed hook shot with 6:23 to play in the first quarter.
  • Sarah Hope made a steal and finished at the other end with a layup at the buzzer as BU led 16-11 after one quarter. Hope finished the quarter with eight points to lead all players.
  • BU dominated Loyola in the second quarter, outscoring the Greyhounds 20-2 and holding them to zero field goals as both Loyola points coming from the free throw line.
  • The Terriers used a very balanced attack to build their lead as BU's benched outscored Loyola's 17-3 in the first half. Freshman Vanessa Edgehill and Meghan Green combined for 11 points in the second quarter as BU built a big 36-13 halftime lead.
  • Loyola went on a 13-4 run when Bri Betz-White hit a layup to make it 53-35 at the end of three quarters.
  • Loyola chipped away at the lead all second half until Lauren Daugherty's layup made the score 62-53 with 1:30 seconds to play in the game, but that was as close as Loyola would get. Meghan Green, Hope and Beaudry would combine to go 5 of 6 from the free throw line down the stretch to make it a 67-55 final.
 GAME NOTES
  • The two points allowed in the second quarter were the fewest the Terriers have allowed this season.
  • BU's bench outscored Loyola's 17-3 in the first half. Loyola's bench outscored BU 25-4 in the second half.
  • BU held Loyola to 34% shooting (21-61) while the Terriers shot 47% (25-53).
  • BU had the advantage from the free-throw line going 11-of-15 (73%) while the Greyhounds were 7-of-11 (64%).
  • The Terriers had five blocks to Loyola's one.
