BOSTON, MA – Led by a career-high 24 points from senior Sarah Hope, the Boston University women's basketball team defeated American University, 71-62, on Wednesday night at Case Gym.
Hope made seven of eight free throws with under 30 seconds remaining in the game to help seal the Terriers' third victory in their last four games.

TURNING POINT
- With BU hanging on to a 55-53 lead with 2:10 remaining in the game, Hope hit her fourth 3-pointer of the contest to give BU a 58-53 lead.
- With 59 seconds remaining in the game, junior Corrine Williams would go to the line and hit two free throws to make the score 62-55 BU.
- In the final minute, with American fouling at every chance, Williams and Hope combined to go 11-for-12 from the free-throw line to keep the Eagles out of reach as BU held on for its third victory in the last four games.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- BU took an 18-17 lead after one quarter on a hook shot from junior Kara Sheftic at the buzzer. The Terriers held American to 35.7% (5-14) shooting in the first quarter while BU shot 47.1% (8-17).
- Freshman Vanessa Edgehill's jumper with 5:56 remaining in the first half gave the Terriers a seven-point lead (26-19), the largest lead either team would have in the game.
- BU used a balanced attack in the first half as Hope, junior Sophie Beaudry and junior Kara Sheftic each scored six points to help the Terriers build a 29-28 halftime lead.
- Sophomore Cecily Carl kept things close for American, leading the Eagles with 12 first-half points.
- Hope hit a free throw to complete a 3-point play with 52 seconds to play in the third, giving BU a 45-42 lead at the end of the three quarters.
- Corrine Williams hit both free throws with 43 seconds remaining to give BU 64-57 lead. Williams had 11 second-half points with six coming from the free-throw line.
- Hope scored 18 points in the second half to lead BU, eight of which game from the charity stripe.
GAME NOTES
- BU had more points in the paint than the Eagles, 34-24.
- The Terriers held American to 35% shooting (21-60) in the game while the Terriers shot 49.0% (25-51).
- BU shot 60% (3-5) from beyond the arc and 71.4% from the FT line (15-21) in the second half.
- The teams were close to even on the glass with American out-rebounding BU 21-19.
- The Terriers remain in fifth place in the Patriot League standings, two games ahead of sixth place and a game behind American and Army West Point, which are tied for third.
