BOSTON
- The No. 2 Boston University women's lightweight rowing team defeated No. 5 Harvard and No. 8 MIT on Saturday to win the Lightweight Beanpot for the second-consecutive year.

In the final race of the day, the BU V8 boat finished first in its race, ahead of second-place Harvard by three seconds and ahead of third-place MIT by open water to ensure the Lightweight Beanpot trophy would remain at the DeWolfe Boathouse for another year. Later in the morning, the 2V finished second in its race behind Harvard and ahead of MIT.

"The 1V raced with poise and was able to stay ahead of hard charging crews from MIT and Radcliffe crew. We raced a lower cadence than we planned, but it was enough to keep the bow ball ahead," said lightweight rowing head coach Malcolm Doldron after the race. "The 2V is extremely young and has been improving everyday. We're looking forward to see how much speed we can gain in the two weeks leading up to Sprints."

"This was our first opportunity to defend the Beanpot title," Doldron added. "I am proud of team for getting the job done and particularly the seniors.  Four years ago we were 30+ seconds behind the field at this regatta. Since then, this senior class called for a higher standard and retaining the Beanpot is proof of a legacy of grit and determination that will be long lasting."
