May 9, 2017

BOSTON - Rising senior Rebecca Leslie will captain the Boston University women's ice hockey team during the 2017-18 season.

Leslie just completed another tremendous season on the ice for the Terriers. She notched 34 points in 32 games thanks to a career-high 16 goals as well as 18 assists. Leslie scored her 100th career point this past season and finished the year with a point in seven of her last nine contests, including the game-winning goal in a decisive game three of the Terriers' Hockey East quarterfinal series against New Hampshire.

The announcement came at the team's annual banquet at which BU honored its senior class and handed out team awards. Graduate student Mary Parker was recognized as the team's Most Valuable Player after she led Hockey East with 24 goals and was second in the conference with 45 points (24g, 21a). Parker was named a Hockey East Second Team All-Star in her lone season at BU.

Redshirt sophomore Anna Streifel received the Academic Honors Award after another stellar year in the classroom while completing her degree in human physiology. She also scored her first collegiate goal this year.

Freshman Breanna Scarpaci was named the team's Most Improved Player award after tirelessly working on her game throughout the year and getting better each time she stepped on the ice.

Senior co-captains Alexis Crossley and Natalie Flynn were both honored with the Caroline Bourdeau Spirit Award. Crossley and Flynn were outstanding leaders both on and off the ice for the Terriers this season and showed enthusiasm and a love for the Boston University women's ice hockey throughout the year and were fantastic representatives of the program. Flynn was also recognized with the Strength and Conditioning Award.

Senior Maddie Elia earned the Friends of Hockey Unsung Hero Award after a career year. Elia collected a career-high 36 points on 12 goals and career-high 24 assists. She was one of the best two-way players in the entire conference and a player that was counted on in all three zones. Elia certainly saved her best for last, finishing the year on an 11-game point streak (5g, 12a).

The program honored its eight graduating players - a group that includes Streifel, who is impressively earning her degree in just three years. Crossley, Elia, Flynn, Victoria Hanson, Parker, Streifel, Sarah Steele and Samantha Sutherland left an immeasurable impact on the program both on and off the ice.
