BOSTON – With a chance to host a Patriot League quarterfinal game on the line, the Boston University women's lacrosse team routed American, 16-5, on Senior Day to clinch the No. 4 seed in the upcoming tournament.

PATRIOT LEAGUE PICTURE
- With the win, BU clinched the No. 4 seed in the Patriot League Tournament and the right to host a quarterfinal matchup.
- The Terriers will host Lafayette on Tuesday, May 2 at 4 p.m.
- BU defeated the Leopards, 20-16, in the regular season matchup behind a six-goal effort from Avery Donahoe.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Mackenzie Howe won the opening draw and control and found Kelly Mathews for the first goal of the game 11 seconds in.
- Taylor Hardison followed with a free position score before Elisabeth Jayne continued the hot start with BU's third goal in a four-minute span.
- American found the back of the net just under 19 minutes into the first half, though Avery Donahoe responded three minutes later to kick off an 8-0 run, as Donahoe and Jayne led the pace with two goals apiece, while Kailey Conry, Mickenzie Larivee, and Maggie Lohrer also got on the board.
- After a 20-minute scoring drought, American broke BU's streak with back-to-back goals, but Larivee and Lexi Lewis capped the half with scores to give the Terriers a commanding 13-3 advantage.
- Kaitlin Belval and Howe kept BU's high-Octane offense rolling to start the second stanza to reclaim the 12-goal lead at 15-13.
- Catherine McAuley netted her first career goal with 13 minutes left and struck again in the final minute to cap the win.
GAME NOTES
- BU posted its largest margin of victory this season and third-highest goal total.
- Mathews' opening score was the fastest goal of the season for the Terriers. Larivee had previously set the mark at UNH by scoring 18 seconds into the game.
- All three goalies for the Terriers - Caroline Meegan, Christine Laible and Bianca Smith - saw action in net and each picked up at least one save.
- Jayne and Donahoe notched three goals apiece, while McAuley and Larivee posted multi-goal efforts as well.
- Lewis scored in her return to the lineup after being sidelined for previous nine game.
- Maria Guerra caused a game-high three caused turnovers, while Talley Perkins led the team with two ground balls.
