BOSTON -  Behind career days from Avery Donahoe and Caroline Meegan, the Boston University won a 20-16 shootout to hand Lafayette its first loss in Patriot League play Saturday afternoon at Nickerson Field.

CAREER DAYS    

  • Avery Donahoe posted a monster game, leading the Terriers with a career-high six goals and totaled seven points on the afternoon. 
  • Donahoe's six scores marked the most a Terrier has scored in a single game since Danielle Etrasco scored seven at Vermont April 6, 2013.
  • Caroline Meegan was also a force in net with a career-best with 18 saves.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Donahoe scored one minute into action before Kailey Conry, Kelly Mathews and Tonianne Magnelli followed to seize a 4-0 command 4:22 into play.
  • Lafayette answered with back-to-back goals to come within two with 20 minutes to og.
  • The Leopards chipped away at BU's command the following 10 minutes, using a 5-2 run to come within one at 7-6.
  • Once again, Donahoe ignited an offensive assault for BU, as the Terriers roped a 6-0 run spanning five minutes to pull ahead, 12-7.
  • Five different Terriers scored during the run, led by Mickenzie Larivee, while Conry, Magnelli, and Elisabeth Jayne got on the board.
  • Lafayette put up another two goals right before the half, though the Terriers were in control, 12-9, at the break.
  • Kelly Mathews and Kaitlin Belval scored in the opening minute of the second half, reclaiming the five-goal advantage for BU.
  • Lafayette came within two again, though Donahoe and Taylor Hardison would inch the Terriers ahead, 16-12, with 17:55 left.
  • Larivee and Belval struck back-to-back goals within 15 seconds of each other, furthering BU's advantage to 18-13 with 16:10 to go.
  • The Leopards came within two with 4:28 remaining, but Donahoe capped her career day with two more scored in the final two minutes to seal the win.
GAME NOTES 
  • BU improved to a perfect 4-0 in the all-time series against Lafayette.
  • The Terriers registered their highest scoring output of the season and surpassed the 20-goal mark for the first time since topping Binghamton, 21-12 on April 13, 2013.
  • Meegan stopped .529 percent of the shots she faced and posted double-digit saves for the fourth time in the last five games.
  • Conry dished out three assists, marking the eighth straight game she has had at least three helpers.
  • Of the defensive end, Talley Perkins matched a career-high with four caused turnovers and scooped up three ground balls.
  • Mackenzie Howe and Kelly Mathews were key winning the draw control, as Howe won seven and Mathews won six.
NEXT UP
  • Lax-A-Palooza will take place next Saturday, April 15 at Nickerson Field.
  • The men's team will kick off the doubleheader with Loyola at noon before the women take the field against Navy at 2:30 p.m.
