Lightweight V8 Takes First at Dad Vail Regatta

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Highlighted by a first place finish by the No. 5 varsity eight boat, the Boston University's women's lightweight rowing team continued its spring season this Friday and Saturday at the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia, Penn.
 
The Terriers sent out four boats to compete in the regatta, the varsity eight, the varsity four and two singles. The V8 defeated old foes Wisconsin and MIT to win the Dennis Kamrad Trophy. The racing was the Terriers' final competition before the IRA National Championship Regatta in Sacramento, Calif. on June 2-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Terriers' varsity eight boat competed in a three boat final on Saturday with no heat qualifiers on Friday.
  • The No. 5 varsity eight boat, coxed by sophomore Taylor Alix and stroked by sophomore Janice Hagerman, finished first with a time of (6:30.34), ahead rivals No. 3 Wisconsin (6:31.13) and No. 6 MIT (6:39.52). With the win, the Terriers took home the Dennis Kamrad Trophy.
  • On Friday, the BU varsity four, coxed by freshman Elizabeth Wu and stroked by freshman Frances Hausmann, finished first in its heat with a time of 7:41.38, ahead of second-place boat "Brock 9" (7:55.50), "Penn State 84" (8:06.74) and "High Point 48" (8:23.279) to advance to Saturday's fist final.
  • In the V4 final, BU finished second with a time of 7:28.72 behind race winner Wisconsin (7:18.95) and ahead of MIT (7:33.82).
  • In singles racing on Friday, sophomore Amy Connell finish first in her heat with a time of 8:42.15 to advance to Saturday's first final. In the final, Connell finished second (first among collegians), with a time of 8:15.72.
  • In the same singles heat on Friday, senior Mariah Ippolito finished third with a time of 8:53.080 and moved on to Saturday's second final. In the second final, Ippolito finished second with a time of 8:26.07.

NEXT UP
The women's lightweight rowing team will next compete at the IRA National Championship Regatta on June 2-4, in Sacramento, Calif.
