No. 16 Terriers Top Bryant, 4-0, in Season Opener

BOSTON - Thanks to four goals from its freshman class, the No. 16 Boston University field hockey team opened its season with a 4-0 victory over Bryant in the first round of the Terrier Classic on Friday evening at New Balance Field.

The Terriers will face New Hampshire, a 5-4 overtime winner over Northeastern in Friday's first game, on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. for the Terrier Classic title.

How it Happened

  • Freshman Miya Denison opened the scoring just above the right post with just over five minutes left in the opening half when she redirected an offering by junior Bridget Egan.
  • Fellow rookie Petra Hall scored twice in the second half, beginning with a tip-in off a corner shot by junior Ally Hammel in the 43rd minute.
  • In the 52nd minute, senior Grace Boston controlled the ball on the right side before finding freshman Ailsa Connolly, who sent the ball to the boards from the middle of the circle to become the third Terrier freshman to record her first collegiate goal.
  • Hall capped the scoring with just over five minutes left in regulation when she slid to reach a pass from Egan and knock the ball past Bryant netminder Miranda Grundy.
Game Notes
  • The Terriers won their season opener for the third straight year and the fifth time in the past six years.
  • BU held a commanding 19-1 shot advantage and earned 12 corners while not giving up any on the other end.
  • In addition to the freshmen getting their first goals as Terriers, Egan's two assists were the first points of her collegiate career.
  • Junior Kathleen Keegan earned her first career start in goal and saved the only shot she faced to pick up her first win as a Terrier.
  • Keegan has now played 68:51 during her career and has yet to allow a goal.
  • Freshman Millie Baker played goal for the entire second half but did not face a shot.

  • Bryant will face Northeastern in Sunday's consolation game at 1 p.m.
