BOSTON – Facing its first nationally-ranked opponent this season, the Boston University men's soccer team will visit No. 14/9 UMass Lowell on Friday night with action slated to begin at 7 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT (recap)

  • For the second consecutive game, Boston College scored four goals, beginning with a unstoppable 25-yard out shot in the 21st minute.
  • The Terriers finished with a 20-12 advantage in shots, but the Eagles limited BU to just three on goal.
COMMONWEALTH GAMES
  • The Terriers are scheduled to face all six other in-state NCAA Division I programs this season with UMass Lowell next on the docket.
  • BU went 3-2-0 last year with wins over Holy Cross, Northeastern and UMass by a combined score of 7-1 with losses at both Boston College (3-2) and Harvard (3-1).
TERRIER TIDBITS
  • The Terriers will be seeking their first win against a ranked opponent since claiming a 3-1 win at then-No. 25 Dartmouth in 2014.
  • BU opened the season with back-to-back losses for the first time since 2013 and is trying to avoid the 0-4 start in 2004 ... That team though rebounded and went 10-3-1 over the following 14 games to reach the second round of the NCAA tournament.
  • Sophomore Matt McDonnell is the squad's top returning scorer from last year with three goals ... He leads the Terriers with eight shot attempts over the last two games.
  • Senior back Adam Sheikali is the only Terrier to have played all 180 minutes.
  • The Terriers through two games have earned a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks.
SCOUTING UMASS LOWELL
  • The America East preseason-favorite River Hawks went 13-1-2 last season and finished with a No. 7 RPI ranking ... They are currently ranked No. 9 by Top Drawer Soccer and No. 14 by the United Soccer Coaches' Association.
  • Key returners this season include Ivan Abramovic  (9g, 8a), Ivan Blaskic (2g, 2a) and Dario Jovanovski (8a).
  • UML opened the year with a 2-1 overtime victory at Central Connecticut State last Friday, as Blaskic scored the golden goal in the 96th minute.
  • Austin Kroll posted two saves in the win after earning a 0.62 goals against average and 0.804 save percentage last year.
SERIES HISTORY
  • BU leads the all-time series, 4-1-0, after posting a 1-0 home win in 2015 ... Senior David Amirani scored what proved to be the game winner in the 51st minute, as BU tallied three saves to preserve the shutout.
  • The previous four meetings took place from 1978-81 ... The Terriers won the first three contests, 8-0, 1-0 and 2-1, respectively ... UML edged BU, 1-0, at Nickerson Field in 1981.
  • UML is the result of a merger between Lowell State and Lowell Tech in 1975 ... The Terriers went 4-0-1 against Lowell Tech from 1955-59.
