Terriers Battle Concordia to 2-2 Draw

BOSTON - Seniors Victoria Bach and Nina Rodgers each scored in the third period, but the Boston University women's ice hockey team settled for a 2-2 tie with Concordia University in an exhibition contest on Friday night at Walter Brown Arena.

GOAL-BY-GOAL

  • Concordia grabbed a 1-0 lead with 4:50 left in the opening period on a goal by Devon Thompson.
  • After a scoreless second stanza, Bach equalized just eight seconds into the third period. With BU on a power play that carried over from the middle frame, sophomore Natasza Tarnowski forced a turnover behind the Stinger cage. Senior Rebecca Leslie collected the ensuing loose puck and quickly found Bach in front for the finish.
  • Rodgers gave BU a 2-1 advantage at the 9:18 mark of the period. She intercepted a Concordia clearing attempt and buried a shot past Katherine Purchase.
  • The Stingers salvaged the draw when Sophie Gagnon scored at the 12:41 mark of the third period.

ALL THREE GOALIES SEE TIME

  • Senior goaltender Erin O'Neil got the start and made 14 saves in her one period of work.
  • Freshman Corinne Schroeder played the middle stanza and needed to make just four saves.
  • Senior Ashlyn Aiello played the final 25 minutes between the pipes for the Terriers and made 15 saves, including three in overtime.

STAYING OUT OF THE BOX

  • BU took just one penalty on Friday night and successfully killed it.
  • The Terriers went 1-for-4 on the power play and generated six shots on goal during those chances.

NEXT TIME IT COUNTS

  • The Terriers will open the regular season on Saturday when they host Merrimack at 3 p.m.
