Women's Soccer Battles to 0-0 Draw at Lehigh

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – In a matchup between two of the Patriot League's top defenses, the Boston University women's soccer team and Lehigh battled to a 0-0 double overtime draw Saturday afternoon at the Ulrich Sports Complex.

How it Happened
  • Lehigh nearly got on the board in the 19th minute as Adrian Vitello ripped a shot that bounced of the left post.
  • All four of BU's shots in the first half were on goal, though its opening four shots of the second half were either wide of the net or blocked.
  • McKenna Doyle and Dorrie Varley-Barrett got off clean shots in the final four minutes of regulation, though BU would head into its third overtime contest of the season.
  • Christina Wakefield nearly netted the golden goal five minutes into the first overtime, but Lehigh's Sam Miller came up with a full-extension diving save to her right to send the game into another extra frame. Miller finished with nine saves on the day.
  • Jacki Carty had BU's best look of the game, launching a header off a corner kick at the five-minute mark of the second overtime, but it just missed crossing the goal line.
From Coach Feldman
  • "This was a hard-fought match, which was expected as Lehigh is a quality team. The game had ebbs and flows, but I was proud of how we competed, particulary in overtime."
  • "I like how our team is playing and trending right now with our mentality and toughness."
Game Notes
  • Amanda Fay earned her third straight shutout in net and finished with two saves.
  • BU outshot its opponent for the fifth straight game, finishing with a 16-13 edge over the Mountain Hawks.
  • Saturday's contest was the second in the five-game series with the Mountain Hawks that have needed extra time. The previous overtime decision in 2014 ended in a 1-1 double overtime draw.
