HAMILTON, N.Y. - Junior Ally Hammel scored her first two goals of the season to help the No. 22 Boston University field hockey team roll to a 5-1 victory at Colgate on Friday afternoon at Tyler's Field.
Fellow junior Maika Akroyd scored her first goal as a Terrier and sophomore Kiley Gallagher and freshman Ailsa Connolly also recorded tallies to help the Terriers improve to 6-4 overall and 2-0 in Patriot League play.
How it Happened
- The Terriers took a 2-0 lead into halftime before extending their cushion to 4-0 early on in the second half.
- Colgate got on the board in the 50th minute before the visitors sealed yet another 5-1 Patriot League win following last Saturday's triumph over Lafayette by the same score.
- BU scored on shots from the top of the circle on three corners, beginning with a blast by Hammel in the 11th minute for her first goal of the season.
- Connolly made it a 2-0 contest with her team-leading seventh goal of the season when she dribbled around a defender and tucked a shot inside the post with just 1:21 remaining in the first half.
- In the 44th minute, a deflected ball made its way to Gallagher, who sent home a shot from the top of the circle to push the lead to 3-0.
- The corner offense came through again for the visitors when Akroyd's shot made its way to the boards off assists from junior Bridget Egan and senior Kali Shumock, making it a 4-0 BU advantage at the 48:05 mark.
- Colgate's lone goal came from the stick of Caroline Schaefer, as her shot off a direct insert broke up BU's shutout bid just with just over 20 minutes left in regulation.
- Hammel put the finishing touches on the win at 66:15 off another corner play that was set up for her.
Game Notes
- Shumock assisted on all three of BU's corner goals and now has a team-best five helpers on the season.
- Egan earned her second two-assist game of the year.
- Freshman Kathryn Scheerer assisted on Hammel's second goal to earn her first collegiate point. Â Â
- The Terriers held a commanding 22-4 advantage in shots and earned seven corners while allowing only two.
- Freshman Millie Baker started in goal and stopped the only shot she faced to pick up the win
- Junior Kathleen Keegan was in goal for the second half and stopped one of two shots on goal by the Raiders.
- Maria Krull turned in a six-save performance for Colgate.
