BOSTON – Returning to the road, the Boston University women's basketball will head to Patriot League front-runner American for a 7 p.m. tip-off on Wednesday, Jan. 17.

LAST TIME OUT

  • The Terriers fell late to Holy Cross, 60-57, on Saturday in a Turnpike Trophy contest.
  • Nia Irving posted game highs of 21 points and eight rebounds, shooting an efficient 7-of-10 from the floor.
  • Irving tallied her third 20-point game in the last six games.
  • Corrine Williams also finished in double figures with 10 points, netting six of those in the fourth quarter, and posted a team-high four assists.
  • The fourth quarter featured five ties and eight lead changes.

DEFENSE GETTING IT DONE

  • In five of its six Patriot League contests, BU has limited its opponents to under .400 percent shooting from the floor.
  • BU has limited two of its last four opponents to shoot under 28 percent from the floor for the game.
  • In Patriot League play, BU ranks third with a .356 field goal percentage defense.
  • The Terriers are also averaging a league-best 4.83 blocks per game in conference play.

SCOUTING AMERICAN

  • The Eagles are the lone undefeated team in league games, entering Wednesday's contest with a 6-0 mark and stands at 13-4 overall.
  • American downed Lehigh, 82-64, on Saturday for its seventh straight victory and improved to 7-0 at Bender Arena this season.
  • Patriot League Player of the Week Cecily Carl is averaging a league-best 18.6 points per game in conference matchups and leads the team with 8.8 rebounds per game.
  • Carl has posted three straight double-doubles, becoming the first Eagles to accomplish the feat since 2015,
  • Carl set a career-high with 27 points against Lehigh.
  • Emily Kinneston paces American and ranks seventh in the league with 13.9 points per game.
  • American holds the top scoring margin in the league at (14.3) and is the league's top scoring defense (.316) and 3-point field defense (.220).

THE SERIES

  • American is 7-3 against the Terriers since BU joined the Patriot League.
  • BU has split the regular season series against American in each of the past two seasons, though the Eagles have ended BU's season in the Patriot League Tournament for two straight years.
  • The Eagles edged BU, 57-51, in last season's Patriot League Tournament quarterfinal round.
