Terriers, Huskies Battle to 2-2 Tie on Sunday

STORRS, Conn. - Sophomore Deziray De Sousa and freshman Jesse Compher each scored for the Boston University women's ice hockey team as the Terriers erased a two-goal deficit to secure a 2-2 tie at UConn on Sunday afternoon at Freitas Ice Forum.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • BU (8-13-6, 4-10-6 WHEA) dominated much of the first period, but UConn (7-11-8, 1-10-5 WHEA) got on the board first with a goal against the run of play. Rebecca Lindblad lit the lamp at 18:39 of the opening frame, and then UConn added to its lead at 6:05 of the second period.
  • Compher got BU on the board with 1:43 to play in the middle frame. De Sousa quickly touched junior Connor Galway's outlet pass on to Compher, who glided into the UConn zone before uncorking a shot that went top shelf for her fifth goal of the season.
  • De Sousa equalized just 4:58 into the third period. Redshirt sophomore Abbey Stanley slid the puck to sophomore Breanna Scarpaci at the right point. Annie Belanger (29 saves) stopped Scarpaci's shot, but De Sousa knocked home the rtoebound for her second goal of the season.
  • BU had to kill a penalty during the final 30 seconds of overtime, but thanks to a key save by freshman Corinne Schroeder (15 saves) and a crucial block from Galway, the Terriers secured the point.
