Terriers Draw With Army, 1-1, in 2OT

BOSTON - Kicking off its final week of the regular season at Nickerson Field, the Boston University women's soccer team earned a 1-1 draw with Army West Point after two frames of overtime Wednesday night at Nickerson Field

Taylor Kofton guided a corner kick by Anna Heilferty into the back of the net in the 23rd minute to put the Terriers on the board first. The Black Knights got only two shots off over 110 minutes, though its second shot of the night tied the game up in the 67th minute, and neither team would score again as BU ended in a draw for the third time this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Chelsea Churchill just missed by inches putting the Terriers on the board in the 12th minute, wheeling around the keeper on the left side of the box, while her shot landed wide of the far post.
  • Furthering her reputation as a corner kick specialist, Kofton corralled a feed from Heilferty and juggled the ball twice before driving the ball across the goal line in the 23rd minute.
  • BU dominated the first half, posting a 9-1 shot advantage, including a 5-1 upper hand in shots on goal.
  • Though the Terriers dominated possession, Army capitalized on an intercepted pass at the midfield, and converted on the counter attack to knot the score at 1-1 in the 67th minute.
  • Julianna Chen nearly provided the heroics in the 86th minute, heading a corner kick that was bound for the goal, but a Black Knight defender headed it out of the box.
  • Heilferty had one final chance in regulation with a free kick from 20 yards out, lining a shot that banged off the far left post.
  • The left post was Heilferty's nemisis once again in the 107th minute, as she lofted a shot from the edge of the right box that looped over the keeper, but connected with the post.

GAME NOTES

  • Kofton's score was her third of a corner kick this season.
  • The freshman ranks second in league leaders with four goals in Patriot League games.
  • Wednesday was the second time in the last three games at Nickerson Field that BU has ended in a 1-1 double overtime draw with Army.
  • BU took all nine corner kicks for the game and finished with 27-2 margin in shots.
