October 26, 2018 | Men's Ice Hockey
BOSTON - The Boston University men's ice hockey team welcomes No. 6 Providence to Agganis Arena on Friday for its home opener. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
The Terriers (0-3-0, 0-1-0 Hockey East) are looking for their first win of the season after going 0-3 in a three-game road stretch to kick off the season. Most recently, the Terriers dropped a 4-0 contest at Merrimack on Saturday in their Hockey East opener.
Providence (3-1-1, 1-0-0 Hockey East) skated to a 2-2 road draw with Sacred Heart on Saturday after kicking off its Hockey East slate with a 7-2 home triumph over UConn on Friday. The Friars' other two wins this season came against Miami and American International.
The Terriers and Friars first met in the 1926-27 season and have played 182 times since that encounter. BU leads the series, 109-56-17 (.646). BU is 14-5-4 against Providence in their past 23 meetings but has just three wins in the past 10 (3-3-4).
Senior Scott Conway (2g, 3a) and freshman Jack Dugan (1g, 4a) are tied atop the Friars' scoring list in the early stages of the season. Junior blueliners Jacob Bryson (2g, 2a) and Spenser Young (2g, 1a) have added four and three points, respectively.
In goal, Hayden Hawkey has gotten his senior season off to a good start, posting a 1.51 goals-against average and a .931 save percentage in four starts.
BU will look to shake off its scoreless outing at Merrimack. Sophomore David Farrance has a team-best four points - all assists - and senior co-captain Bobo Carpenter has three points on a pair of goals and a helper.
Junior netminder Jake Oettinger, the Most Outstanding Player of the 2018 Hockey East tournament, is off to a tough start but he'll be facing a Providence squad he's had a good amount of success against. In six games against the Friars, Oettinger has a .957 save percentage, a 1.30 goals-against average and a pair of shutouts.
