NEWTON, Mass. - The No. 24 Boston University field hockey team closed out its regular season on Sunday afternoon with a 1-0 loss to No. 13 Boston College at Newton Field Hockey Complex.
After a scoreless first half, the Eagles scored the game's lone goal in the 42nd minute off a corner.
BU will enter the postseason with a record of 10-7 while BC improves to 10-8.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Senior Kathleen Keegan was sharp in goal all game for the Terriers and made a pair of impressive stops in the 12th minute.
- The Terriers earned their first two corners late in the opening half but were unable to take advantage of those opportunities.
- BU's defense was up to the task on a BC corner as time expired in the first half to keep it scoreless entering the break.
- The decisive strike came off a corner as Eva Van de Mierop scored from the top of the circle on assists from Frederique Haverhals and Ymke Rose Gote at 41:06.
- BU threatened to even the score in the 50th minute and earned a corner with seven minutes to play, but the Eagles held on to earn the win.Â

- BU's past eight meetings with BC have been decided by one goal.
- All seven of BU's losses this season have come against ranked teams.
- Keegan made six saves in the contest while BC netminder Jonna Kennedy recorded a pair of stops.
