BOSTONÂ -Â The Boston University men's track & field team continued its indoor season by hosting the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Saturday. The meet was the team's final tune-up before the Patriot League Championships next weekend.
The Terriers were led by sophomore
Chiebuka Onwuzurike who had strong performances in both the 200m and 60m dash. Onwuzurike finished first among collegians in the 200m dash with a personal-best time of 21.23, which leads the Patriot League. Onwuzurike also competed in the 60m dash invitational and qualified for the finals with a personal-best time of 6:85.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCESÂ
- Sophomore Chiebuka Onwuzurike competed in the 200m dash and finished first among collegians with a personal-best time of 21.23 which leads the Patriot League. Earlier in the meet, Onwuzurike competed in the 60m dash invitational and qualified for the finals with a personal-best time of 6:85. Onwuzurike did not compete in the 60m invitational finals.
- Freshman Nikolas Smith ran in the 400m dash and finished fifth among collegians (14th overall) with an excellent time of 48.05, a personal best and best in the Patriot League. In the same event, junior Robie Webster finished 24th with a time of 48.63 in a field of 182.
- Sophomore Gregory Pelose set a new personal best in the 1000m with a time of 2:29.34 to finish 26th in a field of 67.
- Senior Liam O'Connell competed in the 800m run and finished with a time 1:56.37.
- Senior Conrad Rousseau competed in the 500m dash and finished 30th with a time of 1:08.17.
- Sophomore Johnathan Kemps competed in the mile and finished with a time of 4:08.91 while in the same event freshman Tommy Quinn ran a 4:16.56.
- In the field, sophomore Clint Lockwood competed in the shot put and finished with a 12.19m (40'00") effort.
CHESEREK BREAKS 3:50 IN THE MILE AND OTHER NOTABLES
- On Friday, during Day 1 of the David Hemery Valentine Invite, Edward Cheserek became the fourth person ever to break 3:50 in the indoor mile. "King Ches", now a professional runner for Skechers, competed in a special section of the mile and finished with a jaw dropping time of 3:49.44 to the delight of the capacity crowd on hand at the TTC. Cheserek joined Hicham El Guerrouj, Eamonn Coghlan, and Bernard Lagat as the only people to crack the 3:50 mark indoors. He also broke Galen Rupp's facility record of 3:50.94 set back in 2013. Cheserek's mile stands as the fastest mile run in the world this year by over five seconds.
- Taking the track immediately after Cheserek on Friday, Elinor Purrier of the University of New Hampshire kept the crowd on its feet by running the second-fastest collegiate women's mile ever with a time of 4:26.55 which is second only to Jenny Simpson's collegiate record of 4:25.91 set in 2009.Â
- On Saturday, Sam Ellison of team BAA set the BU facility record in the 800m with a time of 1:46.49 which hit the world standard and broke Sam Burley's mark of 1:46.63 set way back in 2006.
- During Saturday's regularly scheduled men's mile, six sub four-minute miles were run, lead by Craig Engles of the Nike Oregon project who ran a 3:53.93.

Following this weekend's competition, the track & field teams will travel to Lewisburg, Pa. and compete at the Patriot League Championship hosted by Bucknell on Feb. 16-18.
