Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Terriers Drop Beanpot Final, 4-3, in OT Heartbreaker to No. 3/4 BC

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Seeking its first Beanpot title in 37 years, the Boston University women's ice hockey team went toe-to-toe with No. 3/4 Boston College, but came up short in the waning minutes of overtime by a final score of 4-3.

Senior Victoria Bach scored her 100th collegiate goal, becoming the first Terrier to score 100 goals at BU.

Boston College's Toni Ann Miano delivered the game-winning goal, netting it 14:57 into the extra frame on a one-timer that slid into the upper 90.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • BC (26-3-3) tallied a pair of goals in the opening 12:26 of the proceedings to grab a 2-0 lead.
  • BU (11-15-6) had several grade-A chances in the first period, with Eagle netminder Katie Burt (35 saves) making two terrific saves on Bach and senior captain Rebecca Leslie to keep the Eagles ahead by two entering the second stanza.
  • Bach's 100th career goal started the scoring for BU 3:15 into the middle frame. Junior Reagan Rust played the puck up to Bach, who skated into the offensive zone. Bach used a defender as a screen and uncorked a wrist shot that beat Burt for her 35th goal of the season.
  • Rust tied the game with a power-play strike just 45 seconds later when her shot from the left point had eyes past Burt. Redshirt sophomore Abbey Stanley and freshman Nara Elia assisted on Rust's fifth goal of the season.
  • Leslie made it 3-2 at 8:16 of the second period when she collected a pass from Bach and quickly fired it into the back of the net for her 19th goal of the campaign. Sophomore Breanna Scarpaci also assisted on the marker.
  • BC evened the score, 3-3, with 4:08 remaining in regulation.
  • Freshman goaltender Corinne Schroeder (30 saves) made sure the game got to overtime with a fantastic stop of a point-blank chance in the final seconds of the third period.
  • The Terriers held a 15-8 shot-attempt advantage in overtime before the Eagles went on the power play with 13:07 on the clock.
  • BC roped off six shots towards the cage before finding the back of the net.

BACH MAKES MORE HISTORY

  • Bach became just the 22nd player in NCAA history to reach 100 goals in her collegiate career.
  • She is the second Terrier to accomplish that feat and the first to do so exclusively at BU. Two-time Olympian Jenn Wakefield ('12) tallied 61 of her 120 career goals as a Terrier.
  • Wakefield's 100th career goal also came at Boston College on Nov. 2, 2011, in a 4-1 Terrier win.
  • Bach remains second in the NCAA in goals this season with 35, and her 59 points is a new single-season program record.

SENSATIONAL SECOND STANZA

  • The Terriers' three-goal spurt in the second period came in a span of just 5:01.
  • It was reminiscent of their three-goal outburst in their opening-round win over Harvard last week.
  • In the first period of that 3-2 victory, BU scored three times in a stretch of only 2:21.

NEXT UP: NEW HAMPSHIRE

  • BU will conclude the regular season this weekend with a home-and-home series against New Hampshire.
  • The Terriers will begin the two-game set on Saturday in Durham.
