The Boston University women's lightweight varsity eight boat opened the 2018 spring season on a winning note, defeating openweight boats from BC and MIT on Saturday.

Racing on the Charles River, the Terriers' 1V, coxed by sophomore Taylor Alix and stroked by freshman Annie Phillips, finished with a winning time of 7:10.73, well ahead of BC's openweight V8 boat (7:17.86) and MIT's openweight V8 boat (7:28.75).
 
Later in the morning, the lightweight's 2V finished second in its race, behind only Boston College's openweight 2V. The Terriers finished ahead of openweight boats from MIT as well as BC's 3V boat. Coxed by freshman Antonella Kugler and stroked by junior Samantha Wapner, the 2V finished with a time of 7:39.95, behind race winner BC (7:24.80) but comfortably ahead of the BC B boat (7:47.71) and the MIT 2V (8:33.10).
 
In the final race of the morning, the BU 2V4 dropped its two-boat race to BC. Coxed by senior Rishika Gupta and stroked by freshman Lexi Mills, the Terriers finished with a time of 8:43.10, behind race winner BC (8:18.80).
 
The Terriers will continue their spring schedule when they host archrival and defending IRA National Champion Stanford on the Charles River on April 7.
