BOSTON - The No. 2 Boston University women's lightweight rowing team defeated No. 6 Harvard and No. 7 MIT on Saturday to win the Lightweight Beanpot for the third-consecutive year.

The Terriers swept Harvard and MIT in all four races on the day, winning the V8, 4x, V4 and 2V4 competitions.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In the varsity eight race, the BU V8 boat got out to an early lead and never looked back. Coxed by
Katie Barnett and stroked by
Riona McCormick, the BU 1V finished with a fast time of 7:12.39, well ahead of second-place finisher Harvard (7:20.82) and third-place MIT (7:26.27). With the victory, BU won its third-consecutive Beanpot trophy.

Malcolm Doldron after the race. "This senior class has helped our program come a long way in their four years at BU through lots of hard work and determination and this Beanpot trophy, with 2018 Boston University etched on it forever, will be a testament to their legacy."

BEANPOT NOTES
In 2016, BU swept Harvard and MIT to win the Lightweight Beanpot for the first time since the competition's inception in 2013. Prior to that Harvard had won the trophy for three- straight years.
