Sixteen Terriers Named to WHEA All-Academic Team

July 12, 2018

WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Sixteen members of the Boston University women's ice hockey team were named to the Hockey East All-Academic Team, the league announced on Thursday.

Each Terrier on the squad achieved a grade-point average of 3.0 or better in each of the two semesters that they competed in during the 2017-18 season. BU has now placed 10 or more players on the All-Academic squad six times, including each of the last four years. This year's total matches the program record of 16 set in 2015-16.

Nine Terriers in total were repeat selections to the All-Academic Team, including three-time honorees Ashlyn Aiello, Sammy Davis, Mary Grace Kelley and Erin O'Neil. Aiello and O'Neil both graduated this past May, while Kelley will begin her senior season this fall. Davis redshirted the 2017-18 campaign and has two years of eligibility remaining.

Rising juniors Alexandra Calderone, Deziray De Sousa and Natasza Tarnowski all earned their second All-Academic nod in as many tries. Like Davis, Calderone redshirted last season and still has three years of eligibility. In addition, 2018 graduates Victoria Bach and Rebecca Leslie both earned their second appearance on this distinguished list. Bach and Leslie were the only two skaters on either the men's or women's Hockey East All-Academic Team to tally 50 or more points.

Seven different Terriers were recognized on the Hockey East All-Academic Team for the first time at BU. Transfers Reagan Rust and Abbey Stanley were terrific both on and off the ice in their first seasons in Boston, as were rising sophomores Rachel Allen, Corinne Schroeder and Kristina Schuler. In addition, rising junior Breanna Scarpaci and rising senior Connor Galway were tabbed for the All-Academic squad for the first time.
