Women's Soccer Blanked at Michigan State, 2-0

East Lansing, Mich. – Closing out its opening weekend of play at Michigan State, the Boston University women's soccer team could not overcome two first-half goals as it was blanked by the Spartans, 2-0, Sunday afternoon at DeMartin Stadium.
 
How It Happened
  • Michigan State took advantage of a corner kick in the 11th minute as Sadie Misiewicz cashed in on a rebound.
  • Anna Heilferty nearly sent the game back to a draw in the 15th minute, firing a shot that banged off the crossbar.
  • Shannon Keefe lined a shot on goal in the 34th minute, though Michigan State's keeper made a diving finger-tip save to preserve the lead.
  • Just 30 seconds later, the Spartans thrust ahead, 2-0, as Danielle Stephan delivered a breakaway strike on a 1v1 chance.
  • The Terriers put forth another strong second-half effort, as it out shot the Spartans 8-2, landing half of those shots on frame.
  • However, BU could not break through, as it fell to its second Big Ten opponent of the weekend.
Game Notes
  • BU has tabbed eight second-half shots in each of its first two games and has outshot its opponents, 16-7, in the second half.
  • Additionally, BU posted a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks in the second half.
  • Heilferty led the charge with five shots, while BU's bench contributed five shots as well.
  • Morgan Messner made her collegiate debut in net, holding the score for the final 25 minutes of action.
