West Virginia Blanks Women's Soccer, 4-0

MORGANTOWN, W.Va – Squaring off against perennial Big 12 power West Virginia, the Mountaineers proved too much for the Boston University women's soccer team, dropping the Terriers 4-0 Thursday night at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.

How It Happened
  • Attacking from the opening whistle, West Virginia broke through the Terriers' defense in the 27th minute as Lauren Segalla sent a through ball past the back line, where Stefany Ferrer-vanGinkel took a touch before ripping the back of the net.
  • Morgan Messner did her best to fend off West Virginia's high-octane attack, making a pair of key saves, including a stop on a point-blank breakaway in the 38th minute.
  • However, the Mountaineers would strike again just two minutes later, as Alina Stahl struck a one-timer inside the back left post to make it a 2-0 game.
  • Working within the six-yard box, Sh'Nia Gordon slipped one past the goal line in the 54th minute before Ferrer-vanGinkel converted a penalty kick in the 58th minute to further the lead.
Up Next
  • The Terriers will open up Patriot League play on Sunday, Sept. 16 at American.
