BOSTON - The Boston University men's cross country team finished 10th at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown on Friday afternoon at Franklin Park.
BU totaled 319 points in a field that featured five nationally ranked teams and seven of the top 10 squads in the Northeast Region, including the No. 9 Terriers. Syracuse won with a score of 37 points. BU was the top Patriot League school at the meet, as the Terriers finished ahead of Bucknell (12th, 414 points) and Lehigh (16th, 426 points).
"Much better performance than last week," head coach
Paul Spangler said. "Still have some work to do to get to where we need to be, but today was definitely a step forward."
Junior
Paul Luevano finished 25th in a field of 215 harriers with an 8K time of 24:45, which was well ahead of last week's time of 25:14.93 at the same course. Senior
Alexander Seal finished 52nd with a time of 25:18, followed by redshirt sophomore
Brett Davidson (25:28) in 66th and senior
Johnny Kemps (25:42) in 81st.
"I thought Paul did a good job," Spangler said. "I was encouraged with Alex finishing as our number two guy. Brett fell earlier in the race, but he responded well and moved up and I thought he did a good job as well."
In just his second collegiate race, freshman
Joe Grandizio posted a personal-best time of 25:46 to finish 95th. Junior
Greg Pelose (26:23) and sophomore
Logan Broedner (26:31) rounded out the top seven for the Terriers, with both runners turning in season-best times. Senior
Zachary Prescott finished the course in 26:42, improving upon last week's time by 10 seconds. He was followed by freshmen
Marcel Aubry (26:55), and
Aksel Laudon (27:07).
"You get to this point in the season, everybody's raced a couple of times," Spangler said. "It gives you a good idea of where you're at, where the rest of the conference is at and where the rest of the region is at."
After two straight races at Franklin Park, the Terriers will hit the road for the first time in 2018 when they compete at the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh on Saturday, Sept. 29.
