The Boston University women's ice hockey team will open the calendar year this weekend with a pair of matinees at Maine. Both contests will take place at 2 p.m.

BACK TO LEAGUE PLAY

  • The Terriers return to their Hockey East schedule this weekend with a 4-1-1 record in their last six conference contests.
  • BU was the last team to play a non-league game, beginning its out-of-conference schedule on Nov. 27.
  • Five of their last seven contests have been against non-conference foes, including each of the last four.
  • BU went 3-1-1 in those games.
  • Its last Hockey East tilt was a Dec. 1 victory over Boston College.
  • The Terriers will play just two more non-league games when they take part in the annual Beanpot tournament on Feb. 5 and 12.

START IT WITH A POSITIVE JAM

  • BU is 7-4-2 in its first game of a calendar year.
  • The Terriers did get tripped up in their 2018 opener, however, dropping a 4-1 decision at home to Maine.

HISTORY WITH MAINE

  • BU is 27-14-2 all-time against Maine, including a 13-8-0 mark at Alfond Arena.
  • The Terriers suffered a 2-1 setback to Maine on Oct. 20.
  • This is the Terriers' first trip to Alfond Arena since a heartbreaking 4-3 overtime loss in game three of a Hockey East quarterfinal series last year.
  • BU is looking for its first regular-season win over Maine since Feb. 19, 2017.
  • The Terriers' last regular-season win at Maine came on Nov. 11, 2016, a 5-3 triumph.

MORE ABOUT MAINE

  • The Black Bears have been idle since a 2-1 win at Harvard on Dec. 7.
  • Maine is 4-1-1 in its last six games, a streak that began with a 3-3 tie against Northeastern on Nov. 17.
  • Junior Tereza Vanisova leads the Black Bears with 14 goals and 19 points.
  • Freshman Celine Tedenby has a team-high 10 assists and is second on the squad with 16 points.
  • Junior goaltender Carly Jackson has started 13 of her team's 19 games this season, posting a 6-6-1 record.
  • She owns a 2.09 goals-against average and a .919 save percentage.
  • Sophomore Loryn Porter, who started for Maine in its 2-1 win over BU on Oct. 20, has not played since a 4-1 loss at UConn on Nov. 10.
  • The Harvard win was Porter's first game that she dressed since Nov. 10.
  • Porter owns a 5-1-0 record with a 1.64 GAA and .907 save percentage.

SCHROEDER SENSATIONAL AGAIN

  • Sophomore Corinne Schroeder was terrific on Dec. 30 in a 1-1 tie against Penn State.
  • She made 20 saves, including five stops in overtime, to hold the Nittany Lions to just one goal.
  • Her best stop came in the final seconds as she made a nifty glove save to keep the score tied.
  • The lone Penn State marker was the first goal Schroeder allowed in 118:59 of work.
  • Schroeder has not allowed an even-strength goal in her last 195:00 of play.
  • She enters the weekend with a 1.91 goals-against average and a .933 save percentage.

STUART STRONG IN NET, TOO

  • Freshman Kate Stuart continued her stellar debut season for the Terriers on Dec. 31, stopping 33 shots in a hard-luck 1-0 loss to Penn State.
  • It was Stuart's first loss of the year.
  • Stuart stopped all 23 shots she faced over the final two periods, with eight of those saves coming against the Penn State power play.
  • In three starts, Stuart has yet to allow more than two goals.
  • She boasts a 1.68 goals-against average and a .949 save percentage.
  • If you look at the last three starts for all freshman netminders, Stuart's save percentage is third-best in the NCAA.

GETTING QUITE DEFENSIVE

  • The Terriers have allowed just three goals over their last four games, holding their opponents to an average of 0.75 goals per game.
  • Only one of those three goals came at even strength.
  • That is tied for the stingiest mark in the country with No. 2 Minnesota over a school's last four fixtures.
  • Since Nov. 9, the Terriers have held their foes to an average of 1.55 goals per game, which is seventh among schools that only play Division I teams.
