BOSTON – The Boston University women's soccer team saw its Senior Day spoiled as Colgate handed the Terriers a 1-0 defeat Saturday afternoon at Nickerson Field.
Despite controlling possession for the majority of the game, Colgate made its chances count, heading in a feed off a corner kick for the game-winner in the 63rd minute.
With the loss, BU saw its 53-game unbeaten in home conference games streak snapped, which was the longest active streak in the NCAA.
How It Happened
- BU maintained possession from opening whistle, as Julianna Stureman and Anna Heilferty both stroked quality looks within the first 10 minutes of play.
- Colgate turned the momentum in its favor, firing off five shots over an eight-minute span, including two on goal, but the Terrier defense held and regained control of possession.
- Chloee Sagmoe was able to strike BU's first shot on goal in the 27th minute, bending a ball that landed in arms of Colgate's keeper.
- Morgan Messner made a spectacular punch-out save in the 35th minute, fending off a quality chance from 12 yards out, keeping the game scoreless at the half.
- BU earned its first two corners in the 52nd and 54th minute, but couldn't get a shot off from either set piece.
- Messner made another highlight-reel save in the 62nd minute, making a diving stop to prevent a sure-fire goal directed towards the inside post.
- After the Terriers fended off the initial corner, Leah Lewis headed in the ensuing set piece by Julia Lindsey to put the Raiders on the board.
- BU responded on the attack with shots by Geovanna Pereira and Caitlyn DiSarcina in the 65th and 71st minute.
- Kate Collins nearly drove in the equalizer from 30 yards out in the 85th minute, but the ball bounced off the crossbar.
- Pereira had two chances in front of the net in the final five minutes, but Colgate's Sophia Boggs held her line to preserve the shutout.
