Terriers Fall to Maine, 4-2, in Weekend Opener

ORONO, Maine – The Boston University men's ice hockey team fell short against Maine by a score of 4-2 on Friday night in the opener of a weekend series at Alfond Arena.

Freshman Jamie Armstrong scored his first collegiate goal and senior captain Patrick Curry potted his team-leading seventh tally of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Maine took advantage of its first power play of the night to open the scoring.
  • Ben Poisson one-timed a puck from the right circle off a pass from Jacob Schmidt-Svejstrup at 4:19 of the first period.
  • The home team doubled its lead before the end of the opening period with Samuel Rennaker converting in transition from the foot of the left circle as his shot went off the far side of the crossbar and in with 3:08 left in the frame.
  • The Terriers got on the board midway through the game with the teams skating 4-on-4.
  • Sophomore Matthew Quercia forced a turnover near the top of the BU zone and got the puck to Armstrong, who skated down to the other end on a 2-on-1 and found the back of the net from the slot for his first tally as a Terrier.
  • BU dominated the early stages of the third period but struggled to pot an equalizer.
  • Schmidt-Svejstrup reestablished a two-goal lead for the Black Bears with 10:05 left in regulation, burying a pass from Poisson above the right post.
  • With the Terriers skating with an extra attacker, Curry scored from the slot with 1:50 remaining off assists from Quercia and Alex Brink, making it a one-goal game again at 3-2.
  • Maine, however, sealed the victory with a long empty-netter off a faceoff win in its own zone at 18:43.
