BOSTON – Competing in its final home game of the regular season, the Boston University men's soccer team fell to Loyola Maryland, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon at Nickerson Field.
The Greyhounds (9-7-1, 6-2-0 PL) netted all three goals in the second half against the Terriers (4-11-1, 3-5-0 PL) and have now tallied 18 goals during the five-game unebaten streak that features a 1-1 draw at then-No. 2 Wake Forest.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Greyhounds earned four corner kicks in the first 20 minutes with fourth following an impressive diving save by junior goalkeeper Michael Stone on Brian Saramago's attempt at 19:53.
- BU drew a pair of fouls from approximately 30 yards out later in the half but were unable to threaten, as sophomore Kari Petursson sailed one of them over the crossbar for the Terriers' lone shot attempt of the half.
- The Terriers earned their first corner in the 48th minute and found freshman Marc Roura for a blocked shot attempt.
- Stone made two more stellar saves to keep Loyola off the scoreboard through the first five minutes of the second half.
- The Greyhounds though pulled away in the 55th minute, as Josh Fawole made a move in the box after receiving a quick pass and fired a shot past Stone for the 1-0 lead.
- 36 seconds later, Fawole made a cross into the box from the left side that was flicked off the foot of Davey Mason to Saramago near the right post for a quick shot over the defenseless Stone.
- BU went down a man in the 78th minute when sophomore Josh Hurwitz received a second yellow card.
- The Greyhounds took advantage at 83:40 when Saramago found Fawole in front of the box for the 3-0 win.
