BOSTON – Highlighted by two first-place finishes by senior
Chiebuka Onwuzurike, the Boston University men's and women's track & field teams opened their indoor season at the Track and Tennis Center on Saturday.
Onwuzurike started his senior season on a winning note, finishing first in the 60m dash with a time of 6.82, matching his personal best. Later in the meet, Onwuzurike also won the 200m dash with a time of 21.32.
On the women's side,
Leah Fowlkes finished first in the 600m run with a time of 1:33.86 in a field of 21.

TOP FINISHES – MEN
Chiebuka Onwuzurike advanced to the finals of the 60m dash and finished first with a time of 6.82, matching his personal best.
Later in the meet, Onwuzurike also finished first in the 200m dash, winning with a time of 21.32 in a field of 24.
Junior
Nikolas Smith finished fourth in the 60m dash with a time of 6.95.
Senior
Jamin Harris advanced to the finals of the 60m hurdles and finished second with a new personal-best time of 8.29.
Haig Rickerby has a good showing in the 600m run, finishing fifth with a time of 1:20.50.
Freshman
Sahmir Jones had a strong debut finishing fourth in the 200m dash with a time of 22.02.

Emeka Ibeh finished fifth with a time of 3:22.83.
TOP FINISHES – WOMEN
Leah Fowlkes finished first in the 600m run with a time of 1:33.86 in a field of 21. It was the first time Fowlkes competed in the 600m.
Gillian Morrison had a strong showing in the 60m hurdles prelims, finishing with the third-fastest time of 9:04, a new personal best. Morrison did not compete in the finals. Morrison also competed in the high jump and took seventh with a jump of 1.60 meters (5' 3").
Freshman
Jaiden Ritter made her debut in the 60m dash and advanced to the finals where she finished third with a time of 7.84. Sophomore
Alicia Thomas took fourth with a time of 7:87.
Freshman
Noelani Phillips made her debut in the 200m dash and finished third with a time of 24.81 in a field of 32.
Greer Liguori finished ninth in the 300m dash with a time of 40.59.

STAR STUDDED WOMEN'S 5000M
The final women's event of the competition, the 5000 meter run, featured several student-athletes who had a chance to break the NCAA indoor record of 15:12.22 set by Emily Sisson of Providence College in 2015. Katie Izzo of Arkansas came very close but just missed the record, finishing with a time of 15:13.09 and as the top collegiate runner. Izzo finished second to Taylor Werner (unattached) who finished first with an amazing time of 15:11.19. Weini Kelati of New Mexico finished third with a time of 15:14.71. Izzo's and Kelati's times are the second and third fastest collegiate 5000m ever run. After Saturday's meet, eight of the fastest twelve women's 5000m ever run have been run on Boston University's Track & Tennis Center, furthering its reputation as the fastest indoor track in the world.
