BOSTON - With four games left in the non-conference slate, the Boston University women's basketball team will open up a four-game homestand to close the semester, first welcoming UMass for Education Day on Wednesday, Dec. 11. Opening tip from Case Gym is set for 11 a.m.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- This will be BUs first Education Day game since Jan. 31, 2006.
- BU battled tough with Cal, but dropped a 73-62 decision Saturday in Berkeley to close out a two-game California road trip.
- Sydney Johnson led all players with a 19-point effort, while Katie Nelson led the Terriers with nine rebounds and seven assists, and followed Johnson with 14 points.
- Maggie Pina has led the Terriers in scoring in two of the last three games and is the top scoring option off the bench with 6.9 points per game.
- Additionally, she is averaging 13.3 points per game over the last three games after posting 2.0 points per game through the first four contests.
- Nelson has found her stroke over the last two games, notching a pair of double-digit scoring efforts at UC Davis (20) and Cal.
- Over two games in California, the junior went 11-for-22 (.500) from the floor and 7-for-13 (.538) from 3-point range, and filled out the stat sheet with an average of 7.0 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game.
- BU's bench has chipped in 22.3 points per game over the last three games, notching at least 18 points in each contest after averaging 7.0 points per game through the first four contests.
- Chiara Tibbitt led the charge in the most recent outing at Cal, notching eight points on 4-of-5 shooting.
- Maren Durant is the top rebounder off the bench (3.1) and has scored in all seven games.
SCOUTING UMASS
- UMass has won six of its last seven to boost its record to 6-3 overall.
- Maeve Donnelly swatted a single-game program record 10 shots and added in 12 rebounds, while four different Minutewomen notched double-digit scoring efforts to pace a 75-72 victory over Holy Cross on Sunday.
- Hailey Leidel is the top scoring option (16.6) and has four 20-point games.
- Destiny Philoxy follows in scoring (15.0) and leads the team with 4.8 assists per game.
- The Minutewomen have used the same starting five in all nine games, with that group contributing 75.8 percent of the team's scoring total (505-of-666).
- Head coach Tori Verdi is in his fourth season at the helm of the program and is coming off a 16-win season, the most wins UMass has posted since the 2006-07 season.
THE SERIES
- UMass took last season's matchup in Amherst to even the series at 15-all.
- Neither team has won more than two straight games since BU won three straight from 1981-91.
