No. 7 Terriers Earn 2-1 Road Win at New Hampshire

DURHAM, N.H. - Sophomore Corinne Schroeder made 39 saves, and junior Natasza Tarnowski and freshman Mackenna Parker each scored a goal to help lead the No. 7 Boston University women's ice hockey team earn a 2-1 win over New Hampshire on Sunday afternoon at Whittemore Center.

Schroeder made 14 saves in each of the final two periods to pick up her 15th win of the year. She also made 13 saves during five Wildcat power plays to help BU (18-6-8, 14-5-6 WHEA) extend its nation-long unbeaten streak to 13 games (10-0-3) and clinch a top-three finish in the league standings.

Sophomore Kristina Schuler and redshirt junior Abbey Stanley both assisted on Tarnowski's goal while sophomore Jesse Compher and redshirt junior Sammy Davis both contributed to Parker's marker.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Tarnowski opened the scoring for BU at 13:10 of the first period. With just seconds remaining on a Terrier penalty, Stanley whipped the puck off the boards and out of the zone. Schuler collected the puck at center ice and created a 2-on-1 with Tarnowski, who skated between the circles and redirected Schuler's pass past Kyra Smith (23 saves) for her eighth goal of the year.
  • Parker extended the lead to 2-0 at 5:15 of the second stanza. Junior Breanna Scarpaci began the sequence by breaking up a UNH rush at her own blue line and pushing the puck forward to Davis in the neutral zone. Davis drew two defenders to her and quickly slid the puck to Compher, who raced up ice in a 2-on-1 with Parker. Compher fed Parker, and the freshman beat Smith to the short side with a wrist shot.
  • UNH cut the deficit to 2-1 at with 7:47 remaining in regulation.
  • The Wildcats pulled Smith in favor of an extra attacker with 1:50 to play and nearly equalized immediately if not for a great save by Schroeder.
  • UNH pressed for the tying goal but BU held strong defensively to preserve the win.
GAME NOTES
  • Compher extended her point streak to 13 games (6g, 17a).
  • She is tied for the NCAA lead in assists with 38.
  • Davis pushed her point streak to nine games (9g, 11a), though it was the first time in those nine games that she was held without a goal.
