PINEHURST, N.C. - The Boston University golf team competed in the first round of the 54-hole Pinehurst Intercollegiate on Wednesday afternoon at Pinehurst No. 8.

BU finished the day in third with a score of 324, just three shots back of UNC Asheville, which leads the six-team field with a total of 321. St. John's is second with a score of 323, while the Terriers are three strokes clear of fourth-place Yale.

Senior Megan Carter made a hole-in-one on Wednesday, using an 8-iron to ace the 127-yard 13th hole. She is the fourth Terrier since 2012 to record a hole-in-one during tournament play. It is the fifth hole-in-one by a BU golfer in that span, as Emily Tillo ('16) sank two during the 2015 spring season. Carter, who also birdied another par-3 on Wednesday, is in 18th place.

Freshman Hanako Kawasaki led the Terriers with a 77, which has her tied for second. She is four shots behind the leader, who fired an opening-round 73. Two other Terriers finished the afternoon in the top 10, as junior Zhangcheng Guo (81) is tied for eighth and classmate Abby Parsons (82) is tied for 10th. Sophomore Katerina Doleckova (87) is tied for 25th and junior Saeros Oskarsdottir shot a 94; both those players competed as individuals.

BU will begin Thursday's second round at 8:30 a.m.
