BOSTON - Highlighted by open water victories by both the 1V8 and 2V8 boats, the No. 2 Boston University lightweight rowing team opened its spring season by beating openweight boats from BC and MIT on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In the final race of the morning, the Terriers' 1V, coxed by sophomore Eleanor Balke and stroked by Izzy Bichler, opened up an early lead and never looked back. The BU 1V finished with a fast time of 6:33.30, well ahead of MIT's openweight V8 boat (6:47.69) and BC's openweight V8 boat (6:54.02).
 
Earlier in the morning, the lightweight's 2V cruised to an open water victory in its first race of the season. The Terriers' 2V8, coxed by Antonella Kugler and stroked by Lauren John, finished with a time of 6:48.55, well ahead of BC (7:00.56) and MIT (7:12.37).
 
In the first eights race of the morning, the BU 3V8 finished with a time of 7:01.66, behind race winner BC, 6:57.95 in a two boat race. 
 
In the first race of the day, the V4 boat finished first (7:44.84) ahead of the BC V4 (8:16.46).  
 
The Terriers will continue their spring schedule when they host Bates next Saturday, April 7thon on the Charles River.
