Bucknell Upends Women's Soccer, 1-0

BOSTON – Returning to the road for the first time in three weeks, the Boston University women's soccer team dropped its first Patriot League game since 2017 as it fell, 1-0, to Bucknell Saturday afternoon at Emmitt Field.

How It Happened
  • The Bison had a few quality chances in the 23rd minute off a corner kick. Chloee Sagmoe headed out the initial shot that was heading inside the left post before Morgan Messner snatched the follow-up shot.
  • Caitlyn DiSarcina had the best scoring chance for the Terriers in the 37th minute, one-timing a push feed from Marli Rajacich, but Bucknell's keeper made an impressive sliding save.
  • With less than three minutes left in the first half, Annabelle Heisel chipped a feed from 25 yards out that bounced inside the box. On a collision course for the 50/50 ball, Messner ran off her line to smother the threat, but the ball bounced between her and Emilene Parham, and Parham's momentum won as she finished the lose ball off.
  • Shannon Keefe had an open look in the 58th minute on a breakaway, but couldn't get enough steam on the shot as Bucknell's keeper stood firm.
  • Messner made her own breakaway save in the 62nd minute, deflecting a head-on shot from the top of the 18-yard box.
  • McKenna Kennedy and Julianna Stureman would each have looks in the 78th and 79th minute, but BU was not able to deliver the equalizer as it dropped its fourth straight game at Emmitt Field.
Game Notes
  • BU saw its 12-game unbeaten streak in conference games snapped. BU had not lost a conference game since falling to the Bison in the 2017 Patriot League Tournament semifinals.
  • Saturday also marked the first regular season loss in 10 games, which also last took place in 2017 at Bucknell.
  • Bucknell improved to 4-1 on Emiitt Field against the Terriers.
  • The Terriers held the Bison without a shot for the final 22 minutes of the first half while BU roped seven straight shots over the final 14 minutes of the half. For the game, BU held a 16-13 shot advantage.
Up Next
  • BU will remain on the road as it visits Army West Point on Wednesday, Oct. 2 for a 7 p.m. start.
