BALTIMORE, Md. – For the second straight game, the Boston University women's basketball was resilient until the end as it staved off Loyola, 41-39, Wednesday night at Reitz Arena to complete the season sweep of the Greyhounds.
Riley Childs led the Terriers with 14 points and added in eight rebounds.
Maren Durant led all players with 10 rebounds to go with eight points, while
Maggie Pina also reached double-digit scoring figures with a 10-point night.
How It Happened
- Childs opened the game with back-to-back baskets before Pina found Tenisha Pressley in transition to put the Terriers in front, 6-4.
- Loyola closed the frame on an 8-1 run and scored nine of its 11 points off turnovers to take a four-point grip.
- BU started to click offensively early in the second, as Childs hit from 3-point range before tying the game up from the free throw line to even the score at 17-all.
- Durant continued the momentum by taking contact to give the Terriers their first lead, 19-17, since the opening basket with 2:31 remaining in the half.
- Pina converted from the free throw line to cap a 9-0 run as BU led, 20-19, at the break.
- Loyola tied it up to open the third, but Durant worked the post to put the Terriers back in front, 25-23.
- Childs slipped in a feed from Katie Nelson to close the quarter as BU maintained a one-point advantage, 28-27.
- The Greyhounds hit a 3-pointer from well beyond-the-arc to take the lead two minutes into the fourth, but back-to-back makes in the paint from Nelson and Pina swung the score back in favor of the Terriers, 32-30.
- Childs stayed hot, driving for two straight layups, while Nelson added two from the line to match BU's largest lead, 38-34, with 3:09 to play.
- Loyola made it a one-point game again with 36.5 seconds to go, but missed the potential go-ahead shot with three seconds left, and Johnson grabbed the rebound to seal the sweep.
