Men's Hockey Unveils Jersey Patches to Honor Kelley, Roy

December 14, 2020

BOSTON - The Boston University men's ice hockey team will honor the recent passing of two of the most important men in the program's history by wearing Jack Kelley and Travis Roy patches on their jerseys for the 2020-21 season.

Kelley, who led BU to its first two national titles in 1971 and 1972, died at the age of 93 in September while Roy, who turned his tragic accident 25 years ago into an opportunity to inspire people across the world and raise millions for spinal-cord research, passed away in October at 45

"Coach Jack Kelley built the foundation for BU hockey, which over time has cemented traditions, expectations, and a culture of hard-working people with all of the same goals to win and to win the right way," said head coach Albie O'Connell

"Travis was full of character, integrity, purpose and passion," said O'Connell, who was a classmate of Roy. "He lived his life with many qualities that represent the fabric of BU hockey. Travis connected many people all over the world and his message was sincere and selfless."

The 99th season of BU hockey will begin in January.
