BOSTON - Ready to open up its 2020 campaign, the Boston University women's lacrosse team will welcome crosstown rival No. 5 Boston College to Nickerson Field on Wednesday, Feb. 12. Opening draw is set for 4 p.m. and can be seen live on the Patriot League Network.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- Wednesday will mark the fifth straight season that the Terriers will matchup against the Eagles in their season opener.
- Boston College has been ranked in each of the last nine matchups against the Terriers.
- Kailey Conry and Emily Vervlied were named to the Patriot League Preseason All-League Team.
- The duo represents BU's two returning 2019 All-Patriot League selections as well, as Conry earned her third All-League honor, while Vervlied picked up her first postseason accolade during her sophomore campaign.
- Conry led the NCAA in assists per game (3.67) and is 68 points away from breaking the program's all-time points record set by Sarah Dalton '09.
- Vervlied posted a breakout sophomore season, tripling her goal total from her freshman year (30) and led the team with 28 caused turnovers.Â
- Additionally, the Terriers were predicted to finish third in the Patriot League standings, their highest preseason ranking since the 2016 campaign
- Hannah Kenneally leads the Terriers with a 16-game point streak carried over from last season.
- Kenneally was BU's leading freshman scorer on with 31 points, which tied for second on the squad.
- BU scored 259 goals last season, marking its highest season output since the 2009 campaign, where it found the back of the net 269 times.
- BU also returns 75.3 percent of its goal scorers from last year, while 79.0 percent of its point scorers return.
SCOUTING BOSTON COLLEGE
- Boston College was upset by UMass, 15-11, in its season opener on Saturday.
- Charlotte North, a junior transfer from Duke, led the Eagles with three goals.
- North, an Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-America First Team selection, ranked third in the NCAA last season in goals per game (4.32).
- WLCA Preseason All-America honorable mentions Cara Urbank and Abbey Ngai are the top returners for Boston College.
- Urbank is the leading returning scorer after notching 55 goals and 19 assists during her junior campaign.
- Ngai started in 18 of 21 games last year, finishing with a .475 save percentage and 10.20 goals against average.
- Boston College has fallen in the NCAA national championship game in each of the last three seasons.
THE SERIES
- In a series that dates back to 1982, BC has won the last 10 games and leads the series, 14-11-1.
- The Terriers had won five straight against BC until the Eagles flipped the script over the past decade.
- BU's last win came in a 13-6 decision at Chestnut Hill on March 8, 2009.
- The Terriers are 9-7-1 against their crosstown rival in games taking place at Nickerson Field.
