BOSTON – The No. 9 Boston University women's hockey team came up just short in its quest for a Beanpot repeat on Tuesday evening, as No. 3 Northeastern escaped with a 4-3 win in the second overtime at Walter Brown Arena.
Â
The game featured three different ties, culminating with redshirt senior
Sammy Davis' tally with 22.8 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime. Like both of the men's Beanpot games, the result officially went down as a tie after 65 minutes produced no winner.
Â
The Huskies, led by a two-goal night from tournament MVP Chloe Aurard, claimed their first Women's Beanpot title since 2013 on a power-play tally by Lauren MacInnis at 81:03.
BU moves to 20-6-4 on the year while the Huskies now stand at 25-3-2.
A tournament-record 1790 fans attended Tuesday's championship game, providing an outstanding atmosphere for the student-athletes.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- BU took the first penalty of the game but turned it into a positive as junior Kristina Schuler forced a turnover at the top of the Terrier zone to set up a shorthanded breakaway, which she converted with a nifty backhand at the left crease just 4:55 into the contest.
- Aurard's first goal tied the game as the junior opted to shoot on a 2-on-1 and got the puck past BU netminder Corinne Schroeder with 2:28 left in the opening period.
- The Huskies took their first of two leads when Aurard converted a slot shot at the 6:33 mark of the middle stanza.
- After matching minors were initially called at 8:55 of the second but after a BU challenge, the Huskies' penalty was bumped up to a major and game misconduct for Skylar Fontaine.
- The resulting three-minute power-play for the Terriers produced a game-tying tally as a center-point blast by senior Abby Cook got through traffic to make it a 2-2 affair with 7:55 remaining in the period.
- That score carried over to the third, where Northeastern regained the lead on a power-play rebound at the crease by Jess Schryver at 14:41.
- Schroeder made an unbelievable save on Alina Mueller, the Huskies' leading goal scorer, with 2:15 remaining in regulation to keep BU within a goal.
- That save proved crucial as Davis provided the late dramatics in regulation. A Cook blast from the left point trickled past NU netminder Aerin Frankel into the crease, allowing her to poke it in for her team-leading 15th goal of the season. Â Â
GAME NOTES

- Davis pushed her point streak to four games (4g, 2a) and has notched a goal in three of those tilts.
- Cook and Davis both finished with one goal and one assist.
- Sophomore Kaleigh Donnelly and freshman Nadia Mattivi also secured one assist apiece.
- Aurard's first-period goal snapped Schroeder's Beanpot shutout streak of 126:00, which began in the second period of last year's title game.

- NU held a 30-29 edge in shots during the first 65 minutes.Â
