Terriers Concluded Regular Season at David Hemery Invite

BOSTON -  In their final competition before the Patriot League Championships, the Boston University men's track & field team hosted the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Saturday.
 
The Terriers were led by Paul Luevano who had a strong showing in the 800m run, finishing with a time of 1:50.64, a new personal best and fastest in the Patriot League this season. Freshman Foster Malleck had great performance in the 1 mile, finishing with a time of 4:06.48, second fastest in the PL this year. 

In addition to the action on the track, Boston University track and field held a ceremony to announce the creation of the Jarred Rome Shot Put Invitational which will be held each year at the David Hemery Valentine Invite beginning in 2021 in honor of the Terriers' late throws coach and former US Olympian Jared Rome who died suddenly last year.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES 
  • Paul Luevano competed in the 800m run and finished 12th in a field of 291 with a time of 1:50.64, a personal best and fastest in the PL this season.
  • Freshman Foster Malleck had great performance in the 1 mile, finishing with a time of 4:06.48, second fastest in the PL this year. 
  • Brett Davidson competed in the 3000m run and finished with an excellent time of 8:13.26, fourth fastest in the PL this season. 
  • Hayden Jennings competed in the 800m run and finished with a personal best time of 1:55.11.
  • Riley Sasaki competed in the 60m dash and finished seventh with a time of 7.07. Sasaki also comopeted in the 200m dash and finished in a time of 22.22. 
  • Senior Chiebuka Onwuzurike qualified for the finals of the 60m dash invitational with a time of 6.90 and in the finals finished seventh with a time of 6.88. 
  • Nikolas Smith competed in the 400m dash and took 36th in a field of 232 with a time of 49.09. 
  • Freshman Rylan Pettit competed in the 3000 meter run and finished with a time of 8:35.17, good for 10th in a field of 100 runners. 
  • Sohomore Aksel Laudon finished 11th in the 3000 meters with a time of 8:36.38, a personal best.
  • In the field, Emeka Ibeh finished fourth in the long jump with a jump of 6.31 meters (20'8").
  • Clint Lockwood competed in the shot put and finished ninth with a throw of 15.08 meters (49' 5.75").
  • In the field, Declan Ritzenhaler finished 10th in the pole vault with a vault of 4.50m (14'9").

JARRED ROME HONORED

OTHER NOTABLE PERFORMANCES 
  • The men's mile race saw 10 sub four minute miles. Kiernan Tuntivate of Harvard finished first with a time of 3:57.36, the sixth-fastest collegiate mile run in the country this season. Sam Ellis of Princeton was close behind finishing second in 3:57.66. 
  • Rob Napolitano competed in the 1000m run and finished with a time of 2:18.36, third fastest in facility history.

PL CHAMPIONSHIP NEXT UP
  • Following this weekend's competition, the track & field teams will have a week off before traveling to Bethlehem, Penn.  to compete at the Patriot League Championship hosted by Lehigh on Feb. 29  to Match 1.
