KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - Freshmen
Alice Fan and
Kristen Min Ju Kim both fired a one-under 71 to lead the Boston University golf team in the opening round of the Kiawah Island Classic at Osprey Point GC.
Competing in the largest collegiate golf tournament in the country, the Terriers combined to shoot a one-over 289 and are tied for third, just one shot back of second-place IUPUI and eight shots off the leader and tournament host, College of Charleston. The score is two strokes off the program's 18-hole record of 287, set at the 2018 Yale Intercollegiate.
Fan, added to the roster in January and playing in her first collegiate round, made six birdies in her impressive Terrier debut while Kim made four birdies and was three under on the par-5s. Both players are tied for ninth, just four shots off the pace.
Sophomore
Hanako Kawasaki made five birdies and was also three under on the par-5s en route to a one-over 73, good for a tie for 31st. Junior
Katerina Doleckova sank three birdies and finished with a 74 while senior
Zhangcheng Guo added two birdies and shot a 76. All five Terriers were in the top 87 of the 264-player field.
BU will play the second round on Monday before teeing off for the final 18 holes on Tuesday.
