Terriers Outlast Colgate, 62-58

HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Boston University women's basketball team continued its hot start as it withstood Colgate, 62-58, Sunday afternoon at Cotterell Court to complete the series sweep.
 
Riley Childs led the Terriers in 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting, and also led the team with six rebounds and five assists. Chiara Tibbitt also made a strong contribution off the bench with 10 points on a 4-of-6 shooting clip.

How It Happened
  • Sydney Johnson put in a pair of 3-pointers, giving BU an early 8-3 edge.
  • Colgate took advantage of turnovers to trim the deficit, making it a 10-9 game with 5:09 left in the quarter.
  • Tibbitt got the offense back on track, spurring six straight points, while Kelsi Mingo put in five in-a-row to cushion the lead, 23-15, at the end of the first.
  • Katie Nelson attacked the paint, driving for six straight points in the lane to push the score to double-digits, 32-20, with 5:16 left until the break.
  • Childs and Tibbitt combined for 17 points in the half, providing the Terriers 36-28 margin into the locker room.
  • The Raiders battled back to tie the game at 40-all until Emily Esposito went for back-to-back mid-range makes to regain the upper hand, 44-40, at the end of the third.
  • Maggie Pina commenced the fourth with four straight points before Childs netted five of her own, reclaiming a double-digit advantage, 53-42, with 6:46 to play.
  • Pina hit a clutch 3-pointer to snap a 7-0 Raider run, putting the score at 58-51.
  • BU fended off Colgate down the stretch, holding them to two field goal over the final three minutes to pick up its fourth-straight win in Hamilton.
Game Notes
  • BU's bench combined for 15 of its 23 points in the opening quarter.
  • The Terriers are 4-0 for the first time since the 1994-95 season.
  • BU has won three straight games against Colgate for the first time since joining the Patriot League.
