HAMILTON, N.Y. –
Katie Nelson poured in 20 points and scored her 1,000th career point as the Boston University women's basketball team took its opening game against Colgate, 79-51, Saturday afternoon at Cotterell Court.
Nelson scorched the Raiders in the first half, connecting on 5-of-6 attempts from the floor as part of a 14-point and six-assist effort over the first 20 minutes. The senior opened the third quarter with a 3-pointer from the wing to reach the 1K milestone, and went on to lead all scorers with 20 points while matching a career high with eight assists.

- Maggie Pina and Sydney Johnson got the Terriers off to a hot start from deep, connecting for back-to-back triples to push an early 8-4 edge.
- Nelson and Annabelle Larnard each went for five straight points, while Nelson either scored or assisted on six of BU's seven field goals to give the Terriers the early advantage, 19-12.
- Nelson erupted for eight points in just over a two-minute span to start the second quarter, thrusting the scoreboard to 29-13.
- Pina knocked down another triple as a 13-3 run as the Terriers widened their command, 32-15.
- Larnard and Maren Durant put in second-chance opportunities as BU a clenched a 41-27 lead at the break.
- Nelson started the second half by making history, drilling a 3-pointer from the wing for her 1,000th career point.
- The Terriers were an offensive juggernaut in the third quarter, connecting on 73.3 percent (11-of-15) from the floor and 75.0 percent (3-of-4) from beyond-the-arc to take a 67-35 grip.
