Field Hockey Defeats Colgate, 3-1

HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Boston University field hockey team got back in the win column on Saturday afternoon, earning a 3-1 road victory over Colgate at a rain-soaked Tyler's Field.

Junior Ellie McIntyre opened the scoring off a corner in the ninth minute for her first goal of the season. Classmate Gianna Pantaleo pushed the lead to 2-0 in the second quarter before freshman Payton Anderson recorded her team-leading seventh goal of the season with under five minutes to play to seal the victory.

BU improves to 3-11 overall and 1-3 in Patriot League play while the Raiders fall to 0-10 with an 0-3 PL mark.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Terriers earned the first corner of the game in the ninth minute and used it to help them open the scoring.
  • McIntyre redirected an offering by Anderson to the back of the cage at the 8:55 mark for her first tally of the season and a 1-0 lead.
  • Colgate earned four corners in the second quarter alone but the Terriers successfully defended them and added another goal before halftime.
  • Off a sideline restart, senior Casey Thompson dribbled in and found Pantaleo wide open in the middle of the circle and the junior drilled a shot off the Colgate netminder and in at the 18:08 mark.
  • The Terriers threatened on a few occasions in the third quarter but settled for a 2-0 lead heading into the final 15 minutes.
  • BU tacked on an insurance goal in the 56th minute when McIntyre came in along the right endline and sent the ball towards the front of the cage, where senior Rebecca Janes set up Anderson for a 3-0 advantage.
  • The Raiders scored off their 10th and final penalty corner with 21 seconds left to create the 3-1 final.
GAME NOTES
  • Kelly made five of her seven saves in the opening half.
  • Colgate held slim advantages in shots (12-11) and corners (10-7).
  • Anna Unger recorded six saves in goal for the home team.
  • BU has now won its past 20 meetings with the Raiders.
  • Anderson and Thompson are now both tied for fourth among Patriot League players this season in goals (7) and assists (6), respectively.

  • The Terriers will kick off a three-game homestand on Monday (Oct. 18) when they play host to No. 13 Harvard.
