BOSTON - The Boston University field hockey team closed out its home schedule with a 3-0 loss to No. 24 Duke on Sunday afternoon at New Balance Field. The Terriers honored their five seniors prior to their final home contest at BU.

Duke built an early lead and held it despite a strong second-half effort by the Terriers. BU now stands at 3-14 while the Blue Devils improve to 6-10.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Blue Devils got on the board just 3:10 into the contest as MaryKate Neff sent the ball towards the cage from the right side of the circle looking for a tip and it went off the BU defense and in.
• The visitors doubled their lead at the 8:58 mark off a broken corner as Lily Posternak found space by the left post to redirect an offering by Alayna Burns from just outside the circle.
• BU created chances throughout the second half but was unable to crack through the Duke defense and cut the deficit.
• Down 2-0, the Terriers earned a pair of corners in the fourth quarter but were unable to take advantage of them.
• Duke added an insurance goal with just under five minutes to play when Burns followed up her own rebound. 

GAME NOTES

• Seniors Haley Lowell, Molly Rottinghaus, Casey Thompson and Rebecca Janes along with graduate student Miya Denison were all honored prior to the game. 
• Junior Caroline Kelly was impressive in goal for the Terriers, turning in a 12-save performance.
• Piper Hampsch made a pair of saves to earn the shutout in goal for the Blue Devils.

• The Terriers will close out their season on Friday (Oct. 29) when they visit Holy Cross.
