WASHINGTON, D.C. - Junior
Ronaldo Marshall scored his second goal of the season with just over 11 minutes left in regulation to force overtime in an eventual 1-1 draw at American on Saturday afternoon at the Reeves Athletic Complex.
Each team recorded six shots on goal, as the Terriers (1-8-2, 1-3-1 PL) extended their unbeaten streak against the Eagles (4-3-3, 2-1-1 PL) in D.C. to four games.
"Today was a hard fought point on the road against a good side in American," said head coach
Kevin Nylen. "We came into the game as time passed, and we were good in certain phases of the game. Really proud of our team effort and focus today. Now onto Colgate."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Looking for an early lead, Marshall sent a low shot at the net, but Lorenzo Gordon was in position for the game's first save.
- After earning four corner kicks in a short time span, American drew the first of two fouls in the box in the eighth minute, but the Patriot League Preseason Player of the Year David Coly missed wide.
- Junior Francesco Montali made saves at 22:48 and 25:06, respectively, to help keep the game scoreless.
- The Eagles earned their second penalty kick at 47:49, and Coly converted in the second go-round for the 1-0 advantage.
- Gordon made two saves in the 59th minute on shots from junior Colin Innes and freshman Brian Hernandez.
- A long throw-in produced the equalizer as Hernandez found junior Miles Dycaico in the box and Dycaico flicked it towards the near post, where Marshall found the back of the net at the 78:55 mark.
- Each team put a pair of shots on frame in the first overtime session but the goalkeepers were up to the task.
- A hard American shot from just outside the box with just under eight minutes to play in the second overtime was stopped by Montali and the teams settled for the draw.
GAME NOTES
- With the goal, both Marshall and Hernandez are now tied with a team-high five points (2g, 1a).
- Junior Miles Dycaico earned his second career assist and became the ninth Terrier to claim a point this season.
- American finished with a 17-12 advantage in shots and 7-3 lead in corner kicks.
- BU is now 0-2-2 in overtime games this season, while the Eagles are now 1-0-3.
