BOSTON - Junior
Kyle Falkstrom won the 200-yard breast final at the Terrier Invitational to lead the way on day three and help the Boston University men's swimming & diving team hold off Massachusetts for third place on Sunday at FitRec Competition Pool.
The Terriers finished with 849 points, overtaking Massachusetts for third place as the Minutemen totaled 837.5 points. Boston College (1,671) was first while Georgetown (1,433) was runner-up. Fairfield (745.5) was fifth.
Falkstrom touched the wall first in the 200 breast with a time of 2:02.00 and freshman
Nathan Herman was fifth in the event at 2:03.27. The two top-five finishes pushed the Terriers ahead of UMass for good in the team standings.
Freshman
Dolan Grisbaum placed seventh in the 1650 free with a time of 15:53.44 while junior
Sarsen Whatmore took ninth in the 200 back (1:53.03).
BU widened its lead over UMass in the last individual event as sophomore
Toby Jackson placed 10th in the 200 fly final (1:55.01) after seniors
Benjamin Brewer finished first (1:50.76) and second (1:53.96) in the consolation final. Brewer's time would have been good for fourth in the championship race.
The Terriers also got a 10th-place finish from sophomore
Justin Lee in the 100 free (46.65).
BU's top 400 freestyle relay team of Lee, junior
Jacob Lindner, sophomore
Jackson Olin and junior
Ethan Thomas was sixth at 3:03.58 while the B team placed ninth.
The Terriers will return their dual schedule on Saturday, Dec. 4, when they visit Holy Cross.
