BOSTON - The eighth-ranked Boston University men's ice hockey team will return to action on Friday (Feb. 26) when it hosts Merrimack to kick off a home-and-home series. Game time at Walter Brown Arena is set for 4 p.m.
The teams will meet again on Saturday (Feb. 27) at Lawler Arena in another 4 p.m. start. Both contests will be available to all on SportsLive.
BU (9-2-0) will bring a four-game winning streak into Friday's game and currently boasts the second-best winning percentage in the nation at .818, trailing only Minnesota State (.861). The Terriers are currently second in the Hockey East Power Index (HEPI) at 58.44.
Freshman goaltenders Drew Commesso and Vinny Duplessis are both on win streaks as Commesso has won his past five starts and Duplessis has a perfect 4-0-0. Classmate Luke Tuch has nine points, including five goals, on the year and ranks sixth nationally among rookies in goals per game (0.45). All three have been named Hockey East Rookie of the Week over the past five weeks.
Sophomore Jay O'Brien already has 12 points (7g, 5a) after totaling five (2g, 3a) in 25 games as a freshman at Providence.
Merrimack (4-10-2) is on a season-best three-game unbeaten streak after topping UNH on Saturday, 6-2, following a shootout loss to the Wildcats on Friday. The Warriors currently stand in eighth in the HEPI at 44.31.Sophomore Filip Forsmark has a team-best 11 points on three goals and eight assists while classmate Liam Walsh (5g, 5a) and freshman Alex Jefferies (4g, 6a) have tallied 10 apiece. Sophomore d-man Declan Carlile has added nine points (1g, 8a) while three others have eight to complement the balanced attack.
Freshman Zachary Borgiel has started in goal in 12 of Merrimack's 16 games thus far this season and sports an .885 save percentage and a 3.02 goals-against average.
