BOSTON - The Boston University women's basketball team will compete for its first Patriot League championship as it hosts Lehigh in the decisive game on Sunday, March 14. Opening tip from Case Gym is set for 4 p.m. and the game will air live on CBS Sports Network.
The Terriers won their first-ever Patriot League semifinal game on Thursday vs. American, 72-51, to earn its first trip to the Patriot League championship round.
BU will be making its 12th conference championship game appearance. With a win, BU would punch its ticket to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in program history, and make its first trip to the dance since 2003. The Terriers are 3-8 in conference tournament title games, and Sunday will mark their first conference title game appearance since 2011.
Lehigh advanced to the championship game after downing top-seeded and previously undefeated Bucknell, 63-54, on Thursday. The Mountain Hawks are led by Frannie Hottinger, an All-Patriot League Second Team selection who leads the team in both scoring (13.9) and rebounding (6.9). As a team, the Mountain Hawks lead the Patriot League in scoring (72.8) and 3-pointers (10.0) per game.
BU and Lehigh were set to face off in last season's Patriot League Tournament semifinals, but the remainder of the tournament was canceled during BU's shootaround on March 12, 2020. The Terriers have won three straight home games against the Mountain Hawks and hold the edge in the all-time series, 9-8. Neither team has scored more than 60 points over the last four games after at least one team scored at least 60 points in the first 13 games of the series.
